Sensory Art Project

October 6, 2016

Artists: Valiant Studios and Alison Ranniger

Title: Structurally Sound (touch sensitive sound bench/ interactive art installation)

Media: wood, aluminum, touch board, spray paint

Description:

Structurally Sound invites visitors to have a seat. Using their own sensory needs as inspiration, Valiant Studios artists developed a gallery bench in touch with its surroundings - literally. This interactive art installation uses technology, design, sound and visionary aesthetics to offer spectators a new and exciting way to experience an art gallery.

The aluminum seat uses a block-system design that reacts to the movement of the sitter. Using this material combined with touch-activated sensors, spectators will have the capability to orchestrate sound dependent upon where they sit. To compliment the sound aesthetic, this sculpture also contains unique relief work developed from sound drawings or visual representations of music from the perspective of our artists.

This interactive art installation promotes inclusiveness and engagement of gallery goers, supporting the movement of “sensory art.”
